Grand Opening of Tropical Islands AMAZONIA
Since 1st May guests at Tropical Islands can already enjoy water fun open air. Now, the opening of the new outdoor area, which is another landmark in the history of the resort, will be celebrated with guests from the world of politics, business and media. In addition to this, representatives of the embassies of Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Indonesia, Cambodia and Vietnam will be present. Also, the board members of Tropical Islands, Gerard Nathan, Jamie Buchan and Joachim Hagemann, announced their attendance for this day.
The outdoor area increases the attractiveness of Tropical Islands as an all year holiday destination. “With an area of 66.000 square meters inside the dome and 35.000 square meters in the open air waterpark we offer our guests an attractive location for recreation. In total, there are now 100.000 square meters for various activities, fun and relaxation for the entire family. Hence, every weather is Tropical Islands weather”, states Jan Janssen, CEO of Tropical Islands.
Prior to the event, Janssen informs about the current developments, the strategic direction of the company and presents future plans at a press conference. Gerhard Geising, general planer and architect at Geising + Böker, will explain the specialty of the construction of the Whitewater River and the outdoor area. Insights into the point of view of the investor from Malaysia will be given by Gerard Nathan, board member of Tropical Islands. Moreover, Kathrin Schneider, ministry of infrastructure and regional planning, will inform about the importance of the expansion for the federal state of Brandenburg and the regional planning procedure.
At the start of the event, guests will be welcomed by the rhythms of the Bossa Nova Band. The opening speech will be delivered by Britta Steffen, twice Olympic champion, multiple European and world Champion in freestyle swimming and world record holder, as well as other speakers. Erica Greenfield, singer and performer from the Netherlands, dancers and drummers will entertain the guests afterwards. In addition to Brazilian Capoeira, mermaids will perform at the pools. The beach areas of the new outdoor area will be opened by beach soccer and beach volleyball matches by the “Beachkicks Ladies” from Berlin and by internationally successful beach volleyball players.
The increasing tourism numbers in Brandenburg are also remarkable at Tropical Islands. Last year, the resort welcomed 1.1 million guests from all over Europe. Since the opening in 2004, there have been several developments. Today, Tropical Islands is one of the largest accommodation businesses in Germany, counting about 1.700 beds inside the dome and on the outside area of the resort as well as more than 350.000 overnight stays. With almost 600 staff members, the company is one of the most important employers in the region.
